40 Developmental Assets

Research has proven that young people who possess assets are less likely to engage in violence or use drugs and more likely to exhibit leadership and value diversity.  This is the focus of the Search Institutes 40 Developmental Assets.

The 40 Developmental Assets represent common wisdom about the kinds of positive experiences and characteristics that young people need and deserve. But their value extends further. Surveys of almost 150,000 students in grades 612 reveal that assets are powerful influences on adolescent behavior. Regardless of gender, ethnic heritage, economic situation, or geographic location, assets both promote positive behaviors and attitudes and help protect young people from many different problem behaviors.
                                                                     -Search Institute

CCISD is working to incorporate the strategies behind the 40 Developmental Assets into our daily interactions with our youth.  This framework allows us to intentionally encourage, strengthen, and support our students by continually developing research-based experiences and qualities to help them thrive.    For more information on the 40 Developmental Assets visit the Search Institutes website at www.search-institute.org.
